Kindergarten Graduation

Posted By Jody on June 19, 2009

Yesterday was Ethan’s Kindergarten Graduation!!  It’s hard to believe that his first year of elementary school is over and that he’s going to be a 1st grader!  It was a great day and I’m very lucky to have good friends who brought camera’s since I forgot mine! :(  Here are the first few that I’ve gotten back.. thanks Matt and Jackie!!

Ethan had such a wonderful and awesome teacher, Mr. Wilkie, who made such a great impact on Ethan.  Everytime I mention that he’s a 1st grader now he says something to the effect of no, I want to do Kindergarten over again so I can be in Mr. Wilkie’s class.  He would stay in Mr. Wilkie’s class forever if he had it his way. :)  I’m a little sad that he isn’t going to be Ethan’s teacher anymore.  It’s hard to imagine another teacher having such an impact on Ethan.. that will care about him the same way.. that will love teaching as much has he does. I’m sure there is.. it’s just hard for me to imagine.. afterall - this is his first full day, full week teacher.

Today is the last day of school for Ethan.. now I have to figure out how Summer vacation is going to work.  I have a feeling the next week is going to be a little strained.  We have a lot of little things .. and some big things to keep us busy and a long vacation (2 weeks) coming up.  The kitchen is basically empty.. we’ve moved down to the kitchenette in the basement.. which is working surprisingly well.  Granted it’s only been about a week.. so I’m sure the handwashing of dishes and the small space (which makes messes seem SO much bigger) will get to me before too long.. but oh.. the new kitchen will be worth it!!  Robert is almost done with Owen’s room and he will start demo of the kitchen soon.. next week I think.

Thanks for visitng!!

It’s been a while, huh?

I know it’s been nearly 4 months since I’ve updated the blog.. which bums me out because the whole purpose of creating this new format was that I would update it more frequently.. though - I guess I have.. it had been over a year on the last one! :)  There really hadn’t been much to say until about a month ago.. and now there is lots to talk about.

First, we participated with a group of parents at Ethan’s grade school to install new basketball systems.  We (the parents) insisted that the old ones be removed because they were coated in lead paint that was 13 times higher than the “action” level determined by the EPA.  The district wouldn’t let us paint them.. or even touch them - yet they would let our children play with them. (??)  So we gathered together, wrote a grant and raised money for new, super high-quality, playground grade systems and Robert lead the installation.  It’s gratifying to visit or drive by the school and see so many people playing basket ball there.

Next, Ethan joined the cub scouts!  He’s so darn cute in his uniform!!

He has only gone to a handful of meetings but he’s enjoying it so far!

Next is that Ethan learned how to ride his bike without training wheels today!  It was awesome!  It only took him a few minutes (litterally) and he was off and riding! He was really ready and enjoyed every minute of it!!

Other than that, I took a trip to Vegas with my sister Jamie almost two weeks ago for 4 nights.  It was a really great trip and the weather was perfectly hot for us!!  We sat by the pool and read books almost the entire time.. ate some good food and enjoyed each other’s company.. and slept in every morning!!  This is a yearly ritual I can REALLY get used to!!  Robert’s dad came to stay here while I was gone and the boys (all of them) really enjoyed his stay.. and I was really grateful to have him here!  Thanks Pa!! :)

The only other big news is that our house is now back under construction!  Owen’s room is being remodeled (closet will be bigger and the cabinets and countertops are gone and well as all the yucky lath and plaster - good riddence!  That was the nastiest debris removal outside of actual waste/garbage!!).  His room will hopefully be done in the next couple of weeks so we can move all the toys upstairs and start - in full force - the kitchen remodel!  This will be a very big undertaking!  I’m not even entirely sure I’m prepared for it (I’m already cranky and we’ve barely even begun) .. though I am super excited for the end result!  We will be without a kitchen for around 6 months.. give or take (most likey give if anything).  We have a small kitchenette in the basement thankfully and we’ll be using disposible dishware when possible since we won’t have dishwasher or much space for dishes.  It will be interesting but like I said.. the end result is going to be magnificent!!  I can’t wait to post before and after pictures!!

I almost forgot some of the biggest news.. well for me anyhow!  Owen is fully potty trained!!  No more diapers, pull ups for diaper creams!  YAY! YIPPEE! WOOHOO!!! :)  It has probably been about two months now and I am loving it!!  Can’t believe I almost forgot to post this. :)

Thanks for visiting!!

Just a quick hello

Posted By Jody on February 4, 2009

I thought I would add another post so that Owen’s boo-boo and super sad face aren’t staring at me (and everyone else) every time I look at the page. :)  Owen is doing much better.. his black eyes are starting to turn yellow and the scratch looks like it will be healed soon.  Yesterday he had some stomach something or other going on.. throwing up all day.. and the last one was all over me and himself (he was in my lap cuddling).. it was great!  Thankfully Robert was home and cleaned us up.. which was quite a task!

The only other news is that Jamie and I decided that I should start a sister shop to our K & K Baby Boutique Etsy site for just my cards.. so I’ve been working on that for a few days now and have already sold two cards and have an order for 5 more.  This is good considering that it has only been four days.. some people don’t sell anything for months.  If you want to check it out go to www.jodyscardboutique.etsy.com.  I still have a lot to add and many ideas in my head that I want to make and list.  It will just take some time. :)

Well, time to go get Ethan from the bus..

Oh yea.. one of the nice features of this blog format is that our visitors can leave comments.. just click the comment button below the post you want to comment on.  We’d love to hear from you!!

Poor Owen

Posted By Jody on January 30, 2009

Wow!  Two posts and I haven’t even published this blog yet!  Two posts in two days!  Well.. that would be due to the fact that Owen took a tumble today and I thought he would need stitches.. met Robert at the ER and we cleaned him up more and decided it was just a superficial cut.. and a very large goose egg right between his eyes!  I wasn’t in the room when it happened, but I’m pretty sure he was jumping on the couch.. which he’s not supposed to do.. so he tells me he wasn’t. And of course he won’t tell me what happened.. says he doesn’t know.  But I just don’t see any other way it could have happened.  He’s doing ok now.. in good spirits and no real complaining.  So that was our fun for the day!

Well, I guess I had to say “that was our fun for the day”.. and jinx it.  This evening a car full of a**h***s drove down our street, leaning out the windows and smashing side mirrors and head/tail lights out with hammers!  They broke the side mirror on both of our cars.. broke my tail light and scratched the side of Robert’s truck when they tried to break the tail light and missed!  They nailed a lot of people on our street.. probably three or four blocks worth at least!  ARGH!  Now are cars are parked in our very, very steep driveways (thankfully we have two).. which I HATE parking in.. it’s near impossible for the kids to open the doors and it’s hard for them to get in and out.  Such an inconvenience this little… you-know-whats have put on us for their night of idiocy!!  Karma.. I hope it’s a real bitch!!

At last!

Posted By Jody on January 28, 2009

For those of you who have been to our old site.. you know that I have been wanting to change over to an easier format and I’m hoping this is it!  Thanks to Robert I am now able to take a stab at blogging.  My hope is that this is much easier to update so that I will do it more frequently.  We’ll see what happens.

So I last left off on the old site (which you can still visit at www.maashome.com) with Ethan losing his first tooth.  The new one is growing in and he has three or four teeth that are loose.  Some more than others.  I’m guessing they will starting falling out before too long.

I did not run the Seattle 1/2 because I was experiencing pain in my tibia and without knowing the true cause of the pain I opted to not participate and to see a doctor.  Turned out to be tibial stress syndrome.. I was prescribed to keep running through it.. though very short distances no more than 2 times a week.  It seems to be better now.. though I haven’t gone on a long run yet.  I am going to start increasing my mileage .. though slowly.  My goal is to run the Seattle Rock N Roll 1/2 marathon in the end of June.  I won’t be signing up until the last moment though.. just in case. :)

The holidays were interesting.  (more…)
